My first born is away at college for the first time. 500 miles away! Not really the "drop in for dinner Thursday" kind of away.
Driving Jack to college in August was exciting, scary and fun. We had a caravan of four vehicles and six people. Driving home without Jack was not exciting or fun, but it was scary. I was fine until the CD we were listening to played 'Godspeed Little Man'. Talk about a speedy transition, from dry eye to flood scene. We used to call Jack Little Man when he was, well, a little man.
It's now second semester, Jack has been home for visits and we have visited him. I only cry when he leaves the driveway! Oh yeah, and when I hear that song.
But, I have learned to text message, new transition/technology, so I am finding it fun to chat with my son a little bit each day.
